What kinds of C-PAP Alternative treatment options do we offer?

  • Dorsal – The Dorsal is a relatively new appliance on the market. It is unique in that the upper and lower component of the appliance is not connected as with other oral appliances, but are still adjustable. This allows for a full opening of the mouth, which improves comfort and is helpful in certain cases.
  • Herbst – EMA (Elastic Mandibular Advancement) – The EMA’s primary function is to bring the jaw forward and keep the airway open. One of the major advantages of the EMA is its smaller size as well as its flexibility. Various lengths of flexible bands are used to adjust the position of the lower jaw. The EMA is one of the most comfortable oral appliances.

What are some side effects of Sleep Apnea?

If your physician believes that your snoring is not a symptom of a more serious sleep disorder or breathing problem, an oral appliance can be used to quiet your snoring and improve sleep!

“I was referred to Lane and Associates for a mild case of sleep apnea. They developed a mouth appliance for me, and I visit them routinely for gentle, gradual adjustments. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and Dr. Clark is very knowledgeable and encouraging. They thoroughly address all of my questions and concerns. I leave my appointments upbeat and confident that I am working with a team, who cares about my health and success!” – Debra Hibbard via OurReviewsToday

Actual Sleep Apnea Patient Review in Raleigh, NC:

“Hello…My name is Joe…and I’m a Snore-A-Holic. I realized my condition back in 1994, I was told that it not only kept people awake that were trying to sleep in the same house, but it actually rattled windows, after a sleep study was performed, I found out the snoring was not the worst of it, I actually stopped breathing multiple times during the night, (28 to be exact). Now aside from the obvious side effects of stopping breathing (death), it also breaks up your sleep time with interruptions and degrades the quality of a restful night’s sleep, you wake up in the morning, just as tired as when you went to bed, this is called “Sleep Apnea”. Because I do not want to snore AND because I really do like to breathe, I also want to breathe and it is almost like I NEED to breathe (see “death” above), so I decided to purchase a CPAP machine and although it stopped the snoring and allowed me to sleep through the night without stopping breathing, it looked and felt like an octopus was mating with my nose and gave me the distinct profile resemblance of an unattractive elephant (not good qualities when you are in bed with your wife). I used the CPAP machine for a few months until it just became too uncomfortable and ugly, I didn’t use it anymore and just got earplugs for my wife and I (I snored so loud I would wake myself up) Then I talked to The Great and Powerful Doctor Aziz from the land of Aziz at Lane and Associates (my family’s regular dentist), he told me of a dental “appliance” similar to a football player’s mouth guard, it is comfortable, you can’t really notice that I’m wearing it, I can put it in my pocket on the road (try that with a CPAP machine), I can talk, drink and best of all, I will not snore and It will greatly reduce the sleep apnea, I told him to sign me up and I have to admit, it was the best thing I ever did (aside from marring my wonderful wife), once adjusted to my personal needs (a matter of a few days) it completely stopped my snoring and let me sleep through the night, my wife and I no longer wear earplugs, but best of all, I sleep…….. I mean I really sleep………fall asleep fast, have amazing dreams with great detail, and awake fully refreshed and ready to go, life is good! And by the way, I got $10 for the CPAP machine in a yard sale and I think I got the better end of the deal. Thank you to The Great and Powerful Doctor Aziz and all the little munchkins from the land of Aziz at Lane and Associates…………….and Toto too!” – Joe P. via Yelp

“I have been seeing the folks at Lane and Associates for a number of years. I have always had a good experience but wanted to share a specific story about them. During a regular checkup visit I was advised by the dental Nurse and Doctor that, after examining me, I should consider consulting a sleep specialist. I had always been a heavy snorer but had never really paid much attention as to why I was snoring. I followed their advice and I can only tell you that it has been life-changing. I was diagnosed with extreme sleep apnea and am now using a CPAP machine at night. I can now sleep properly, my wife can sleep properly and it is all due to the excellent work of the staff at Dr. Lane’s. Thank you!” – Matt Stone, Fuquay-Varina Patient
